New York Giants reportedly fire head coach Brian Daboll after another lost season
"The New York Giants have reportedly fired head coach Brian Daboll after Sunday's defeat left the team with a 2-8 record and staring at another lost season. ESPN reported the Giants made the decision after the Giants blew a double-digit lead in their defeat to the Chicago Bears. It was the second time this season the team had lost a game in which they were leading by at least 10 points with fewer than four minutes remaining."
"Daboll, who had previously helped Josh Allen develop into one of the league's best players at the Buffalo Bills, had an excellent start to his Giants career in the 2022 season. He was named the NFL coach of the year after leading the team to an unexpected playoff berth before they lost to their fierce rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, in the divisional round. However, the team's fortunes have declined since. They finished 6-11 in 2023, 3-14 in 2024 and will almost certainly miss the playoffs"
Brian Daboll was fired after the Giants' Sunday defeat left the team 2-8 and facing another lost season. The decision followed a blown double-digit lead in a loss to the Chicago Bears, the second game this season lost after leading by at least 10 points with fewer than four minutes remaining. Daboll had earlier coached Josh Allen in Buffalo and won NFL Coach of the Year after a 2022 playoff berth. The Giants regressed to 6-11 in 2023 and 3-14 in 2024 and will almost certainly miss the playoffs this season. Daboll was known for a hot temper and occasional clashes with staff and players. Owner John Mara had tied job security to improved results. The team now prepares to search for a fifth permanent head coach since 2016.
