Giants DL coach Patterson discloses cancer battle
""I think we give him life," veteran defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence II said. "Obviously that's not an easy thing to go through, but I think we give him life and he enjoys coming in and helping us get better.""
""Make sure you get checked," he said."
Andre Patterson was diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier in the year and remained with the New York Giants while undergoing treatment. Patterson, 65, is in his 21st season as an NFL defensive line coach and previously coached with the Minnesota Vikings. He came to the Giants with head coach Brian Daboll in 2022. Patterson previously spent days in the Intensive Care Unit three years ago and coached from a scooter for months upon return. He declined a leave of absence; former assistant Bryan Cox filled in on the occasions it was necessary. Teammates expressed support and emphasized his positive influence.
