""My mistake was an honest mistake," Carter said Tuesday morning. "I own the fact that it was an honest mistake. I was getting treatment and I told Coach Kafka that, too. But to say I was sleeping at that time just wasn't true. And it also wasn't a trend. This was the only time it happened.""
""I did make a mistake, and I own up to what I did.""
""I don't want anonymous sources to say these types of things about me that are untrue," Carter said."
Abdul Carter denied sleeping through a walk-through and said he missed the session because he was receiving treatment at his usual practice time after head coach Mike Kafka changed the schedule. He said he learned of the time change too late and later discussed the situation with Kafka on FaceTime. Carter acknowledged an honest mistake but rejected reports claiming he slept during the walk-through, calling such accounts untrue and damaging to his reputation. Carter was benched for the opening series of the Giants' loss to the Packers, with Tomon Fox playing the first six defensive snaps. Kafka declined to discuss the matter publicly.
