Abdul Carter chooses his first Giants number - now let's see if it lasts
Briefly

Abdul Carter, the No. 3 overall NFL draft pick, has opted to wear No. 51 as he joins the New York Giants for rookie camp, a shift from his previous requests for retired numbers. Initially seeking No. 56, worn by legends like Lawrence Taylor, he faced disappointment after Taylor declined his request. Following that, even an offer from Phil Simms for No. 11 was thwarted. The 51 jersey worn by others like Azeez Ojulari opens up a new chapter for Carter, as the Giants' defense seeks improvement.
"I know he would love to wear that number, but hey, I think it's retired," Taylor exclusively told The Post's Steve Serby on Carter's ask for 56. "Get another number. I don't care if it's double zero, and then make it famous."
"I would say keep going, man. Let it be fuel to your fire," Kayvon Thibodeaux told The Post earlier this week when asked about the noise relating to Carter's jersey number. "Don't get distracted by it. I think this is just the start. There's a lot of ups and downs in this league."
