Outgoing Mayor Eric Adams announced a $39 million settlement restoring lost wages to 15,000 New York City baristas who were illegally denied predictable schedules, paying $50 per week worked between July 4, 2021 and July 7, 2024. The settlement addresses past scheduling violations but does not resolve current contract demands. More than 100 stores in nearly as many cities remain affected, and union leaders cite understaffing and low hours as core issues.
