Wigmaker Miriam Yarimi weeps as she's sentenced for crash killing Brooklyn mom, kids
"Why should I apologize, I'm just as much of a victim as they are,"
"I want to begin by apologizing to the victims' family,"
"There's a lot of sorrow and pain and honest regret I feel in my heart for causing such a tragedy. I accept full responsibility for my actions."
"I'd like to thank Judge Chun for his gracious offer here, and I'll have to deal with this for the rest of my life. I think that's the punishment in itself,"
Miriam Yarimi, a 33-year-old wigmaker and social media influencer, pleaded guilty after a March 29 crash on Ocean Parkway in Midwood. Yarimi was driving at 68 mph, ran a red light, hit an Uber and then struck Natasha Saada and her three children in a crosswalk. Saada and her daughters Diana, 8, and Deborah, 5, were killed; son Philip, 4, was critically injured. Prosecutors sought a harsher sentence, but Judge Danny Chun approved a plea deal making Yarimi eligible for parole after three years and imposed a three-to-nine-year term. Yarimi expressed remorse and accepted responsibility at sentencing.
