Widow of NYPD officer killed in Midtown mass shooting gives birth to baby boy

The widow of NYPD officer Didarul Islam, who was killed in a Midtown office shooting, gave birth to a baby boy. Islam was shot last month, leaving behind his pregnant wife and two other children. Mayor Eric Adams visited the hospital and expressed support for the family, while NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch acknowledged the bittersweet nature of new life coming from tragedy. Islam, an immigrant from Bangladesh, had served for three and a half years and was the first Bangladeshi officer killed in the line of duty in New York City, posthumously promoted to detective.
Mayor Eric Adams said he stopped by the hospital on Sunday to talk to family members while Islam's wife was in labor. "We will continue to let them know God works in mysterious ways," Adams said.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch posted a photo of the newborn baby boy, saying "Out of tragedy, a new life has entered this world."
Islam was an immigrant from Bangladesh and was assigned to the 47th precinct at a stationhouse in Baychester. He was on the force for three and a half years and is the first Bangladeshi officer killed in the line of duty in New York City.
Officer Didarul Islam was one of four people fatally shot in the Midtown office building at 345 Park Avenue last month. He was posthumously promoted to detective.
