As of Friday morning, the brush fire in Passaic County was about 75% contained. Meanwhile, the air quality index for the eastern half of New Jersey was listed as "poor," showing the significant impact of the fire on air quality.
"The wind is going to shift more towards New York, we could see more poor air quality later today," said meteorologist Joseph Davis, highlighting the concern for New York City residents as smoke from New Jersey's fire could affect them.
The conditions were set to last through Saturday and Sunday, making for a haze-covered fall weekend in the region. Over 20 million people in the northeast were under fire threat this week.
