Former NYPD Sgt. Steven Lee, who helped expose the karaoke-bar corruption scandal in a Queens precinct, was found guilty of assault and sentenced to six months in Rikers Island.
Lee defended his actions stating he was protecting a woman being assaulted and argued about differential treatment, questioning why he was being penalized for assault while being housed next to violent criminals.
Despite helping investigate some officers in the past, Lee found himself arrested by some of the same officers, hinting at the lack of protection for whistleblowers within the law enforcement community.
