The jury found Dutra liable on four of five complaints, ordering him to pay $1.133 million in damages for sexually assaulting Stephen Siefke, then 12.
Siefke, claiming Dutra molested him at age 12, showed how past trauma resurfaced when he saw Dutra running for office, risking his family's contribution.
In a lawsuit filed in 2022, Siefke detailed his long-term psychological struggles stemming from the abuse, including feelings of guilt, shame, and PTSD.
The incident led to Dutra’s reevaluation of his public image as he was heavily based amongst youth groups; his political aspirations were overshadowed by the allegations.
