Water rescues underway in Connecticut after flash flooding causes mudslides, washes out roads

As thunderstorms moved through southwestern Connecticut, local law enforcement conducted multiple water rescues due to significant flash flooding and dangerous conditions brought on by the rain.
We are in the process of barricading these locations and we urge everyone to stay home. Please do not drive through the flood waters as it is hard to determine how deep the water is.
The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Emergency for Fairfield and New Haven counties, noting rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
In Danbury, emergency crews responded to a mudslide that caused a gas leak, prompting evacuations at the Woodland Hills Complex.
