Video shows flames shoot out of NJ train, at least 13 injured, officials say

A fire erupted under a New Jersey train, leading to multiple hospitalizations and significant service disruptions for commuters on Monday morning. The incident occurred around 6:20 a.m., causing heavy smoke to fill the PATH train and Newport Station. Thirteen people received treatment for smoke inhalation, with nine requiring hospitalization. Commuters faced cancellations between various stations, and normal service resumed by 11 a.m. Fortunately, there was no visible damage at the Newport platform following the incident. An investigation into the fire is currently underway.
The fire broke out under a New Jersey train on Monday, sending several people to the hospital and temporarily suspending service for most of the morning.
Officials with Port Authority Trans-Hudson say 13 people were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and nine of those went to the hospital for further evaluation.
Video showed flames shooting up from under the train and heavy smoke inside. People can be heard on the video saying "open the door," and "easy, easy," as they eventually disembark.
Normal PATH train service resumed by 11 a.m. after hours of disruptions, as commuters were turned away from the Newport station all morning long.
