Several hundred students at UNC Chapel Hill broke through barriers, chanting Free Palestine and demanding divestment from Israel. The scene turned chaotic when protesters replaced the U.S. flag with a Palestinian one, leading to clashes.
Student protests led to the detention of 36 individuals, with 30 cited for trespassing and released while 6 were booked on trespassing charges. A few students at the campus held Israeli flags.
A Jewish student at UNC expressed feeling threatened for the first time on campus during the protests. He highlighted the seriousness of the situation when the U.S. flag was taken down in the clashes.
