Second Avenue Subway extension to East Harlem will continue, but could hit snag if feds don't restore funds soon: MTA amNewYork
"MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber, during the agency's monthly board meeting on Wednesday, insisted that work on Phase 2 of the Second Avenue Subway, which will extend the Q line from 96th to 125th Street, is not in imminent danger of being derailed by Trump's funding freeze. This project is moving forward, Lieber told the MTA board."
"Billions in federal funding for the Second Avenue Subway is now in jeopardy.MTA Officials, including U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, warned on Tuesday that if the $12 billion the Trump administration is withholding from Gateway is not released by Feb. 6, work on that project will come to a grinding stop and could be permanently killed."
The Second Avenue Subway Phase 2 extension of the Q line from 96th to 125th Street will continue during a federal funding pause, but federal dollars for the project are at risk. The frozen funding will prevent awarding the next contract to excavate a new station at 106th Street if the money is not restored within the next couple of months. The Gateway Tunnel faces a more immediate cash shortfall that could halt construction by Feb. 6 without release of withheld federal funds. Restoration of federal funding or clarity from Washington is required to keep schedules and contracts on track.
