Authorities served him with a Reinstatement of Deport Order, but he was released three months later under the Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program and disappeared. Sources said Gomez was ignored by ICE during an October 2024 arrest for possession of a forged instrument because he didn't meet Biden administration immigration enforcement priorities."
Edwin Cruz Gomez, 38, allegedly ran down 16-year-old Jhoanny Gomez-Alvarez and her mother in Queens after they rejected his sexual advances; the teen died and the mother is in stable condition. Gomez was arrested and charged with murder, three counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault, and other crimes; an immigration detainer was lodged. Officials said Gomez was a Honduran deported in 2005 with prior DUI arrests. He was arrested for a 2013 DUI, detained by ICE, served a Reinstatement of Deport Order, then released under the Alternatives to Detention program and disappeared. Sources said he was not prioritized during an October 2024 arrest for possession of a forged instrument.
