Philip Sean Grillo, a former Republican district leader, was convicted for his role in the January 6 Capitol riot. Following his conviction and a year-long sentence, he expressed confidence that President Trump would pardon him. Indeed, after Trump's inauguration, Grillo, along with around 1,500 other rioters, received a full pardon. This act effectively invalidated the justice delivered by the court system and portrayed violence in support of Trump as excusable, sending a troubling message about the consequences of lawlessness in the name of political allegiance.
Mr. Trump's mass pardon not only makes a mockery of Mr. Grillo’s jury verdict and Judge Lamberth’s sentence, but it undermines the integrity of the justice system.
The mass pardon sends a message that violating the law in support of Mr. Trump will be rewarded, proclaiming that the rioters did nothing wrong.
