Jane August launched a project to visit and document every museum in New York City, initially expecting to complete it in three years. Since 2021, she has visited 136 museums and estimates 64 remain, adjusting her goal to finish by age 30. Originally to reconnect with culture post-pandemic, the project shifted focus to sharing her experiences on TikTok. The journey has enhanced her appreciation for the wide range of museums, particularly smaller venues in various boroughs, with favorites including Poster House and the Tenement Museum.
Visiting its museums has sparked a new appreciation for New York City, she said, as well as for the sheer breadth of what's on offer, particularly for those willing to explore smaller museums and those in the boroughs beyond Manhattan.
