One of world's most iconic tourist spots unrecognisable as it hosts long jump
""Truly a dream come true! Times Square, let's get sandy!""
""Time of my LIFE! 3rd place at Athlos and feeling like a world of possibilities for track and field has just been revealed. "My season is done for realsies this time, and I can't think of a place I'd rather have ended it, this was a conclusion that felt fitting for a special season, thanks for the magic @athlos.""
Athlos staged a female-only track and field meeting in New York with six track events at Icahn Stadium and the long jump held in Times Square. Organizers built a track and sand pit in central Manhattan for free preliminary qualifying jumps open to the public, with the top three advancing to a final at Icahn Stadium. Olympic and world champion Tara Davis-Woodhall won the Times Square long jump with a 7.13m leap and received a £20,000 Tiffany tiara. Brit Jazmin Sawyers finished third. Winners collected $60,000 prizes, and Keely Hodgkinson won the 800m and received a tiara from Serena Williams.
