NYU survey of MTA job violence was posted publicly on Facebook - and trolls may have taken over: 'Mischievous respondents'

Researchers from NYU have moved to retract a study claiming 90% of New York City transit workers faced on-the-job violence after anomalies in the data were found.

The study’s lead investigator, Robyn Gershon, acknowledged the issue in a letter, stating that a public Facebook post allowed unauthorized respondents to participate, compromising data validity.

Gershon emphasized that safeguards were inadequate to ensure only NYC transit workers completed the survey, indicating a contamination of the dataset from January 2, 2024.

Demetrius Crichlow challenged the NYU study's findings, citing MTA data that only 11% of their workforce experienced assault or harassment, calling into question the alarming results of the research.
