NYPD: Crown Heights woman attacked by a man wielding a belt
""I'm scared that he's going to attack me, I'm terrified," said Bernard."
""He pushes the front of me into the back and bashes my head against the wall and he's repeatedly hitting me in the back over and over and over again," she says."
""If he wasn't there, I think he would have kept beating me and beating me and possibly killed me," said Bernard."
A 24-year-old woman named Grace Bernard was exiting Lincoln Market on Fulton Avenue around 9:30 p.m. while returning home when she observed people running. A man wielding a studded belt attempted to whip other women, then chased Bernard across the street and cornered her at the Franklin Avenue and Lefferts Place bus stop. He pushed her, bashed her head against a wall, and repeatedly struck her in the back. A resident intervened and chased off the attacker. Bernard reported fear for her life and credited the intervening resident with likely preventing a fatal outcome.
