NYC-owned UWS scaffolding shed up for more than a decade finally removed - sort of: 'Out of control'
Briefly

After more than ten years, a scaffolding shed at 2720 Broadway was partially removed on June 18, revealing ongoing issues with urban maintenance. While residents felt a sense of relief, they soon faced the reality of a new scaffolding structure nearby. Business owners express frustration as the area continues to experience homelessness and a lack of cleanliness. The persistent presence of scaffolding in the Upper West Side reflects broader city struggles with adequate urban upkeep and safety, with locals describing it as an unending cycle of maintenance structures.
"When this disappears, I am so happy, I said, 'Finally, now it is more clean. It might come back, the neighborhood from how it was before,'" said Fernando Andrade.
"I am scared for that because we don't know how long this might be. I hope very not too long, no. I hope," Andrade said.
"It doesn't make any sense. Now they sleep under here. Nighttime, people sleep, two or three homeless," said Ali Abdul.
Residents lamented the endless game of 'whack-a-mole,' where new sheds go up almost on pace with sheds coming down.
