N.Y. weather: How much snow will nor'easter bring to NYC? Forecast begins to come into focus
"There's high confidence in there being a strong, offshore low pressure system, but there's still a little bit of a question on how close that's going to track to our area,"
"There is not only the area of low pressure that will be off to our south and east, but there's kind of a component in the upper level in the atmosphere but coming in from the west that could act to kick this storm further east quicker and if that happens, yeah, we'll probably end up on the lower range of our 1-3 inch forecast,"
A strong offshore low pressure system is expected, though uncertainty remains about its coastal track. Forecast snowfall centers around four inches for the city with a one-in-ten chance of up to ten inches; a farther offshore track could limit accumulation to a trace. Snow is likely to begin Sunday morning, intensify Sunday evening, and linger into Monday morning. A general 1–3 inches is probable across the five boroughs, with 3–6 inches possible for eastern Long Island. An upper-level westerly component could push the storm eastward, reducing city totals. Surface temperatures in the upper 40s Saturday will hinder accumulation despite adequate moisture.
