Nor'easter to bring 60mph winds and heavy rain to New York City
"The coastal storm will intensify throughout the day, with rain spreading inland by evening and wind gusts reaching up to 40mph inland, 50mph in NYC, and 60mph further east tonight. Significant flooding is expected along the coastline due to prolonged onshore winds driving water inland, causing moderate to major flooding over several high tide cycles. The worst of the tides are predicted for Sunday afternoon and early Monday morning."
"Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman issued a stark warning to Long Island residents. "If you don't have to go out please stay home. Don't drive through flooded streets. Check on family members and your neighbors, we're all in this together," Blakeman advised, adding that the County's Emergency Operations Center will be activated at 8 a. m. on Sunday to respond to the storm."
A Nor'easter will hit the New York City region from Sunday into Monday, bringing tropical winds and heavy rainfall. Wind gusts are forecast up to 40 mph inland, 50 mph in New York City, and 60 mph farther east. Prolonged onshore winds will drive water inland, causing moderate to major coastal flooding over several high tide cycles, with the worst tides Sunday afternoon and early Monday morning. Eastern Long Island and the Jersey Shore have High Wind Warnings while other coastal counties, including New York City, have Wind Advisories. Officials urge moving vehicles to higher ground, securing outdoor items, charging phones, and preparing for outages; New Jersey declared a statewide emergency and volunteers placed sandbags along vulnerable shorelines.
