Following the indictment of Mayor Eric Adams on bribery and fraud charges, numerous Democratic officials in New York are now urging him to resign in light of the circumstances.
Gov. Kathy Hochul has said that she needs time to review the indictment but emphasized that her primary responsibility is to ensure service to the people of New York.
Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez expressed a strong viewpoint, stating that if she were in Mayor Adams's position, she would have resigned immediately as he is unable to conduct business for New York.
Sen. John C. Liu highlighted that while Adams is presumed innocent, the city needs leadership that can devote full-time attention to its governance.
