The interim chairwoman of an independent police oversight panel, Arva Rice, will step down at Mayor Eric Adams's request after criticizing delays in evidence handover and requesting more power to investigate complaints against police officers.
The resignation request was delivered by Philip Banks III, Mr. Adams's deputy mayor for public safety, who served as the Police Department's top uniformed officer and previously resigned under a cloud of a federal corruption investigation in 2014.
