Massive repair job on leaky NYC aqueduct will take a few more years to finish
Briefly

A $2 billion initiative aimed at repairing a significant leak in New York City's Delaware Aqueduct is postponed due to drought conditions. This project aims to address a leak of up to 35 million gallons per day. Originally scheduled for an eight-month shutdown, work was halted as reservoir levels dropped, necessitating a new contract for construction. City officials emphasize the importance of this project for providing high-quality water to nearly 10 million residents, indicating it will not be completed until after 2027 due to these delays.
The delay means the environmental agency will have to enter into a new contract for the construction work, highlighting the project's extensive planning and impact.
'A new contract must take every contingency into account to ensure we meet our critical responsibility of providing the highest quality water possible to nearly 10 million New Yorkers every day, without exception,' said Commissioner Rohit T. Aggarwala.
