Fine Gael politician Mr. Conway was arrested for public intoxication and subsequently resigned from the party amid an ongoing controversy regarding inappropriate behavior. Although he exited the party he first joined in school, he has chosen to maintain his Seanad seat. Mr. Conway, born with congenital cataracts leading to significant vision impairment, has had a notable political career, including being the first visually impaired member of the Oireachtas and advocating for disability access in education through his work with AHEAD.
He emerged as the Fine Gael politician at the center of the "inappropriate behaviour" controversy, leading to his resignation from the party but not from his Seanad seat.
Mr Conway's career in politics began at the local council level, where he was elected to Clare County Council in 2004, later securing a Senate seat.
