The hate crime charges against the man, Yehia Amin, were among the latest to arise from a spate of bias incidents in New York City in the past two months amid the war between Hamas and Israel.
The number of bias incidents investigated this year by the Police Department's Hate Crime Task Force was down 6 percent through November, compared with the same period last year, but the number of such incidents this November was up 33 percent compared with last November, department data shows.
