Jose Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan man, was convicted of murdering Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, whose death has sparked a national immigration debate.
The case, which involved testimony from several law enforcement officers and Riley's acquaintances, was decided by Judge H Patrick Haggard after Ibarra waived his right to a jury trial.
Prosecutor Sheila Ross detailed how Ibarra killed Riley during a struggle on February 22, as she was running on the University of Georgia campus.
Defense attorney Dustin Kirby acknowledged the tragedy of Riley's death but argued that the evidence against Ibarra was insufficient to prove his guilt.
