Irondale Program Connects Police and Public
Briefly

After Eric Garner's death due to police violence in 2014, Terry Greiss reflected on the incident and saw the need for improved communication between law enforcement and the community. He proposed that police could benefit from skills drawn from acting to enhance their engagement with the public. His letter reached then-NYPD commissioner William Bratton, who valued diverse perspectives. This spurred a collaborative project, "To Protect, Serve, and Understand," aimed at fostering better dialogue and understanding between police and communities.
"Without painting any fingers, one can honestly say cues were being missed. They were not talking to each other, they were not listening to each other."
