A jury in Queens found Mr. Everett guilty of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence, marking the second conviction for the 2010 murder of Amanda Gonzalez-Andujar.
Upon a reversal of a conviction through no fault of the prosecutors, my office built a strong case against this individual once again, and we successfully proved that he callously murdered a young woman 14 years ago.
The killing was an example of an epidemic of violence against people who are transgender, as declared by the American Medical Association.
Everett strangled Ms. Gonzalez-Andujar in her apartment, attempted to destroy evidence by dousing her body in bleach, and stole several personal items before fleeing.
