Gov. Kathy Hochul signed FY27 budget legislation aimed at strengthening public safety across New York. Measures include cracking down on illegal 3D-printed ghost guns and DIY machine guns through new regulations for 3D printers sold in the state, minimum safety standards to prevent unlicensed firearm production, and criminal penalties for possessing, selling, or distributing blueprints used to print illegal guns or components. Pistols sold to private citizens must be designed to reduce the risk of conversion into machine guns. The budget adds funding for NYPD officers in the subway system and expands SCOUT teams. It also targets “super speeder” drivers by requiring speed-limiting devices for drivers with 16 or more speed camera violations in a year.
