A severe lake-effect snowstorm hit Central New York from February 14 to February 19, resulting in several feet of snow accumulating on building roofs. The Barneveld Volunteer Fire Department's main structure collapsed on February 22 after personnel discovered significant structural damage and attempted to clear the snow. Fortunately, no injuries occurred during the collapse, and the fire department assured the community of its readiness to respond to emergencies despite the setback. Other buildings in the town of Trenton also faced structural collapses due to the heavy snowfall.
"While some of our crews were removing snow from the roof other members started coming up with a plan to start shoring up the structure."
"Please be rest assured that the members of the Barneveld Vol. Fire Department are ready to respond just like we always have since 1838."
