Harvey Weinstein has been transported to Bellevue Hospital for emergency heart surgery after experiencing severe chest pains while in custody at Rikers Island.
Weinstein's attorney warned that his life was at risk, prompting the urgent transfer to Bellevue Hospital, where he underwent a pericardiocentesis to remove fluid from around the heart.
New York's highest court recently overturned Weinstein's 2020 conviction for sexual assault, citing judicial errors that could affect the retrial scheduled for Nov. 12.
Judge Jenny Rivera stated the need for a new trial due to egregious errors in allowing testimonies from women not involved in the charges against Weinstein.
