Enrique Tarrio, the former leader of the Proud Boys, held a press conference after receiving a presidential pardon from Donald Trump following his previous conviction for seditious conspiracy related to the January 6 Capitol riot. During the event, he argued that the January 6 incident was merely a 'protest gone wrong' and insisted that he and his group did nothing wrong, attributing violence to a few individuals. While Tarrio did express that he did not condone violence, he maintained his belief that the election was stolen and that the Justice Department acted unfairly.
"To me, it's a travesty of justice," said Miami lawyer Marcos Jimenez, a former U.S. attorney."
"There's absolutely nothing I will apologize for because I did nothing wrong," Tarrio said.
"But the process was corrupt so they do deserve a pardon," he added.
"Jan. 6 was 'a protest gone wrong,' he said, indicating a shift in his narrative."
