Emmitt Martin, a former Tennessee police officer charged in the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols, plans to change his not guilty plea in federal court soon.
Nichols, a 29-year-old FedEx worker, suffered excessive force during a brutal altercation with police officers and was left without medical help for over 20 minutes.
Desmond Mills Jr., one of the five charged, has pleaded guilty and is cooperating with prosecutors, agreeing to a sentence of 15 years for depriving Nichols of his rights.
Video evidence showed how Nichols was beaten while he called for his mother, highlighting the brutal treatment he received from the officers both during and after the incident.
