Former North Miami Beach Mayor Anthony DeFillipo reached an agreement with prosecutors that avoids prison time for election fraud. Initially facing over 20 years, he will serve four years probation, complete 200 hours of community service, and is barred from seeking political office. DeFillipo was accused of voting three times in elections while living outside the city. The deal was finalized just before jury selection began for his trial, highlighting the timing and repercussions of his actions.
"The deal was brokered as Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Ellen Sue Venzer was informing jurors of their potential obligation and just prior to state prosecutors and DeFillipo's attorneys selecting a jury."
"You need to understand that if you violate probation in any way, you're looking at five years and 60 days in state prison," the judge told the former mayor.
