Former actor guilty of assaulting ex-girlfriend day after early prison release
Briefly

Jason Hoganson, a former actor, was found guilty of assaulting his ex-partner Rachel Usher shortly after being released from prison due to an overcrowding initiative. He assaulted her just one day after serving half of his 18-month sentence for a prior assault and violating a restraining order. Despite Ms Usher's passing before the trial, the court ruled to proceed with the case based on her previous statements. In addition, Hoganson's erratic behavior during the trial led to his removal, and further sentencing is pending for his recent offenses.
The court was shown a letter, found to have been written by Hoganson, sent to Ms Usher from HMP Durham telling her he loved her.
Hoganson was photographed raising a thumb as he was released from HMP Durham on September 10 last year, having served half of an 18-month jail sentence for assaulting his ex-partner.
A restraining order was made in July 2023 banning Hoganson from contacting Ms Usher in any way whatsoever.
