Fishs Eddy Expands to Brooklyn With Its First-Ever Cafe
"Fishs Eddy, the Flatiron dishware shop co-founded by Julie Gaines that's been a New York institution since 1986 (889 Broadway and 19th Street), has opened its first cafe: It offers affordable coffee, root beer floats, and egg creams -made with either Bosco or Fox's U-Bet syrup- from an old-school soda fountain. It's tucked in the first Brooklyn location, at 81 Front Street, near Washington Street, as part of the new 3,800-square-foot Dumbo store and the brand's second location."
"The move signals how Fishs Eddy - long known for its mix of practical dinnerware, such as the 212 skyline motif and variations on dinerware - is evolving from a single quirky flagship into a bigger retail brand. "It felt like a no-brainer," CEO Daniel Yadgard told Eater. He joined the company a year ago and raised investor funding to grow the business."
Fishs Eddy opened its first cafe inside a new 3,800-square-foot Dumbo store at 81 Front Street, marking the brand's second location. The cafe features an old-school soda fountain serving drip coffee, cappuccinos, root beer floats, and egg creams made with Bosco or Fox's U-Bet syrup. Drip coffee starts at $1.95 and cappuccinos at $3.50, brewed with Queens-based Sweetleaf Coffee Roasters, positioned as a lower-cost alternative to pricier city options. The Dumbo shop continues to sell the same eclectic dinnerware, mugs, plates, political satire platters and vintage-style glassware. The Flatiron dishware museum is packed away and expected to reopen next year.
