Sirkka Thomas was hit by a lorry driven by Imre Szucs, who was unaware of the impact. Despite being taken to the hospital, she died four days later from her injuries. The court aimed to balance justice and the driver’s remorse during the sentencing hearing.
During the court proceedings, Ms Thomas's family expressed compassion towards Szucs, indicating that they did not harbor any hate and recognized the tragedy from both sides, emphasizing the loss experienced by Szucs's teenage child.
Prosecutor Will Martin explained that Szucs failed to check his mirrors properly and did not activate indicators while pulling away, indicating that these oversights contributed to the fatal accident and he may have been able to avoid hitting Ms Thomas.
The family described Sirkka Thomas as a shining light in their lives, emphasizing her positivity and future aspirations that were abruptly cut short by the unfortunate incident.
