Commissioner Edward Caban has dismissed the disciplinary charges against Chief Jeffrey Maddrey regarding his interference in the arrest of retired officer Kruythoff Forrester, citing jurisdiction issues.
The Civilian Complaint Review Board found Maddrey had abused his authority by intervening in the arrest of Forrester, but Caban determined the board lacked jurisdiction to proceed.
Before the scheduled disciplinary trial, Deputy Commissioner of Trials Rosemarie Maldonado concluded that Chief Maddrey had not abused his authority, contradicting previous recommendations.
The decision comes after the previous police commissioner, Keechant Sewell, had supported sanctions against Maddrey for improperly influencing an arrest of a retired officer.
