Khalife explained his escape as an attempt to avoid being targeted by other inmates, expressing that he wanted to remain free for at least 48 hours.
While on the run, Khalife sent a message to an Iranian contact, not for assistance but out of 'curiosity' to gauge the response, which ultimately led to no aid.
Prosecutors questioned Khalife about his apparent wait for help from Iranian security services, but he firmly denied actively seeking assistance from them.
