During the court proceedings, Edward McGarth, aged 34, denied all charges against him, including two counts of rape and a sexual assault accusation, claiming innocence.
Judge Samantha Leigh decided to grant bail to co-defendant Christopher Stannard, who, unlike McGarth, is not charged with rape and will face an electronically monitored curfew.
The alleged offences took place on September 18 in Southend and both men are accused of trespass with the intent to commit a sexual offence.
A trial date has been set for June 16, with the court estimating that the proceedings will take about seven working days.
