This latest legal move involved a whole lot of coordination between states. DA Katz made sure to thank the teams that made this happen, including the extradition staffs of Governors Hochul and Gavin Newsom, the New York County District Attorney's Office, and the California Attorney General's Office.
Weinstein was formally arraigned on a governor's warrant issued by New York Governor Kathy Hochul. This warrant ensures that he remains in New York State until his case in New York County is fully adjudicated.
Once Weinstein's New York case wraps up, he'll be shipped back to California, where he will serve what is now considered his primary sentence.
Turns out, it's more of an administrative function. They handle all re-arrests from Rikers Island on fugitive matters, thanks to the Queens Warrant Squad and the Joint Fugitive Task Force based in Fresh Meadows.
