"We had two cars burning in the first floor,"
"[a] second alarm was needed due to the volume of smoke in all of the adjacent stores and the possibility of fire involvement up in the cockloft."
At about 3:40 p.m. on Nov. 25, a fire broke out in a mechanic shop at 104-09 99th St., between Liberty Avenue and Rockaway Boulevard in Ozone Park. Arriving crews encountered heavy fire and smoke, prompting a second alarm and the assignment of 25 units, 106 firefighters and EMS personnel, and a Hazmat unit. Two cars burned on the first floor, producing smoke that affected adjacent stores and raised concern for cockloft involvement. The blaze was brought under control at 4:25 p.m. EMS treated one civilian for minor injuries. FDNY fire marshals will determine the cause.
