City Councilwoman Is Charged With Biting Police Chief During Protest

A New York City councilwoman, Wenyi Susan Zhuang, faces assault charges after a protest at a men's homeless shelter site where she allegedly bit a police chief during a clash with officers.
Ms. Zhuang prevented officers from reaching a woman on the ground by shoving barricades at them and resisted arrest by biting a chief, twisting, and pulling away, according to the police.
The councilwoman, representing parts of southern Brooklyn, was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration.
Ms. Zhuang and her office did not immediately respond to requests for comment or messages following the incident.
