"I was hopeful, but I had also prepared myself emotionally for yet another legal hurdle in securing my freedom," Jarvis Jay Masters said in a statement.
"Witnesses who accused me of making the weapon have recanted, and other inmates have admitted to making the spear. I believe crucial evidence was ignored," said Masters.
"It is troubling that Masters received a death sentence for weapon-making while the actual murderer was sentenced to life in prison," supporters stated.
"U.S. District Court Judge Gilliam found that the state's denial of my innocence claims was based on sound legal reasoning, but I refuse to give up the fight," Masters asserted.
