Bus lane cameras coming to 4 more NYC routes starting Monday
"Starting Monday, drivers along four more MTA bus routes in Queens and the Bronx will begin receiving warning letters if they block bus lanes or bus stops, officials said. After a 60-day grace period, fines will kick in along the Q6 line in Queens and the Bx20, Bx3 and Bx7 in the Bronx, according to the MTA. Tickets start at $50 and can rise to $250 for repeat offenders."
"The Automated Camera Enforcement program is part of the MTA's effort to keep lanes clear and improve bus service citywide. The cameras are already in use on 39 bus lines. According to the agency, average bus speeds on those routes have increased about 5%, with some corridors seeing gains of up to 30%. The MTA also reported a 20% drop in collisions and fewer blocked bus stops where the cameras are active."
