Michael Shelonchik, 53, died after being robbed of his gold chain by two assailants in Brooklyn. After the robbery, he asked his livery cab driver to take him home but experienced a medical emergency en route. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead. Initial reports suggested he was assaulted in the cab, but police now say he was robbed outside. An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death, which may relate to drug overdose. His family remembers him as a generous and loving man.
"He helped everybody. Like our neighbors would sometimes ask for money and he would never say no. He never said no to anybody."
"He was the best dad in the whole world to two daughters. He was very kind. He was very loving."
"It was a chain and it was also a Star of David and we're wondering if it was antisemitism."
