Carlos Oliver, a 15-year-old boy from the Bronx, was killed on July 4 while subway surfing on top of a 7 train entering the Queensboro Plaza station. He fell onto the tracks and was found unconscious, later pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital. The MTA is reiterating warnings about the dangers of subway surfing, describing it as suicidal. NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow has urged adults to speak to youth about the serious risks involved. The MTA has also updated campaigns to include safety messages delivered by BMX athlete Nigel Sylvester.
